Technical Award Finalists Announced!

Our Awards Judging Committee have completed their review and scoring of all the nominations we received for the 2024 Excellence in Currency: Technical Awards and we are so pleased to announce our FINALISTS.  As the IACA Excellence in Currency Awards program is the most respected and longest running program of the currency industry, we receive great interest and many nominations.  Being selected as a FINALIST is a great achievement.  So CONGRATULATIONS to all the following organizations:

Best New Banknote Feature, Product or Process Finalists:

  • CCL Secure –   Effect™ Cameo Feature.
  • De La Rue – ASSURE – covert feature in the core of a polymer banknote substrate
  • Jura and OEBS (Austrian Banknote Printing Company) – Stainless Steel Intaglio Plate Making Process

Best Limited Circulation/Commemorative Banknote Finalists:

  • Bank of Guyana – Guyana Commemorative Note (nominated by CCL)
  • Eastern Caribbean Central Bank – ECCB $2 Commemorative (nominated by De La Rue)
  • National Bank of Kazakhstan – 10,000 Tenge Commemorative Banknote

Best New Cash Cycle Innovation Finalists:

  • Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas – The Coin Deposit Machine
  • The European Central Bank in cooperation with the euro area National Central Banks – Product Environmental Footprint of a cash cycle
  • Giesecke + Devrient Currency Technology – Banknote Fibre Extraction

NEXT, our IACA voting delegates will review these projects and vote for the one they think the best in each category.   If you are a designated Voting Delegate for your organization, you will be receiving an email in the next few days with instructions for voting in our awards platform (Awards Force).

ADDTIONALLY, this year, we have a category for THE BEST HOUSE NOTE.  The nominations we received are as follows:

  • Banco de Mexico – Commemorative house note for the 5th Anniversary of banknote printing works in Jalisco.
  • Bundesdruckerei GmbH – Ignis, The first note of the Nihilo Series.
  • Casa de Moneda de Chile House Note.
  • Komori – The Phoenix Komori Anniversary Note
  • Kurz – Kinegram® Around the World.
  • Landqart – 150th Anniversary House Note.
  • Louisenthal – Jump – Camera House Note.

These nominations were not judged.  Instead, on Tuesday, May 14 and Wednesday morning, May 15 in conjunction with the Banknote Conference, our Central Bank voting delegates will vote for the winner in this BEST HOUSE NOTE category on our voting platform (Awards Force) ALONG WITH the delegates of the Banknote Conference (in Ft. Worth, Texas) who will cast their vote at the IACA desk at the conference.   The combined total of votes will determine the winner for BEST HOUSE NOTE.  More information on this voting will be coming out closer to the conference date.  Stay tuned.

IACA will be presenting all our Finalists (in the 3 judged categories) their awards on Tuesday afternoon, May 14 at the Banknote Conference and the winners for all four (4) categories will be announced at the Conference Awards Dinner  Wednesday night, May 15.
