Project Description
As part of a currency reform, the Central Bank of Liberia has launched a new L$5 and L$10 coin.
The new L$10 coin is smaller, much lighter and easier to carry than the previous coin in circulation. The minted coins are round, nickel-plated steel, with the L$10 weighing 4.8 grams. The L$10 has the image of President Joseph Jenkins Roberts.
The L$10 coin, is part of the new family of Liberian dollar currency, with the rest of the new currency being the L$5 coin and the L$20, L$50, L$100, L$500 and the L$1,000 banknotes.
Innovation and Uniqueness of Design
The L$10 coin is a nickel-plated steel coin. The obverse design features a latent image, which appears in a semi-circular shape below the portrait of President Joseph Jenkins Roberts.. The latent image changes from the denomination ‘L$10’ to the symbol of the ‘star’ when the coin is seen from different angles. The latent image is a visual security feature.
Integration of historical or local content that is relevant to the country
concerned
The obverse design includes an image of President Joseph Jenkins Robert and a latent image. The reverse show the map of Liberia with the denomination numeral ’10’ and the words ‘Lone Star Forever’.
