Upgraded 20 Manat banknote – issued on 11.02.2022
Existing series of Azerbaijan’s Manat banknotes issued into circulation in 2006. The series devoted to the main Concept of “Independent Azerbaijan” and consists of 7 banknotes (1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 Manat).
In 2021, Central Bank of the Republic of Azerbaijan has started upgrade of existing banknote series keeping the main concept and themes of individual denominations. At the first stage 1, 5 and 50 Manat banknotes have been upgraded and issued into circulation in 2021.
At the second stage, 10 and 20 Manat banknotes have been upgraded and issued into circulation in 2022.
Upgraded 10 Manat banknote is devoted to History.
Upgraded 20 Manat banknote is devoted to Karabakh.
Innovation and Uniqueness of Security Features
On both banknotes new 3D Holographic foil, Spark Live element (dynamic light effects and color changing images), watermark (the Coat of Arms of the Republic of Azerbaijan and denomination visible at light), visually impaired recognition feature (lines on the right and left of the obverse of the note can help blind and sight impaired persons to recognize the note), new security thread with dynamic color change, vertical reverse design, iridescent ink, micro texts and others have been applied in the upgraded 10 and 20 Manat banknotes as the most recent security elements.
Integration of historical or local content that is relevant to the country
Upgraded 10 Manat banknote devoted to the History. The design of the banknote contains different historical elements from the history of Azerbaijan. On the obverse of the banknote graphical view of Baku Old City (Ichari Sheher), which is in the UNESCO’s World Heritage List of important cultural and natural landmarks.
Effectiveness of the integration of security features into the banknote
The upgrade of the 10 and 20 Manat banknotes was not only on the basis of renewal of security features, but also, by presenting design elements in a modern style and by making them in a completely new graphical style, which prevents attempts to forge banknotes.
Aesthetic appeal and overall design of the banknote or banknote series
Both denominations presented in a new look, reverse sides has been designed on the basis of vertical orientation. Within the upgraded concept all banknotes contain a network of lines and dots, which comprise integration of Azerbaijan into the whole world.
On the 10 Manat banknote – it is dedicated to ‘History’. The obverse of the banknote depicts Ancient Baku with the fortress walls of the Icheri Sheher (Old City) on the background, the Shirvanshahs Palace and the Maiden Tower. On the 20 Manat banknote – it is dedicated to Karabagh. The obverse of the banknote depicts a symbol of power – sword, helmet, shield and a symbol of Peace ‘Khari Bulbul’ flower.
Reverse of both banknotes depicts stylized map of Azerbaijan and typical ornaments of Azerbaijani carpets.
