Banknote Description
This is the first commemorative paper currency in the history of the independent Republic of Tajikistan, dedicated to this significant date. These commemorative banknotes were issued into circulation to mark the 25th anniversary of the introduction of Tajikistan’s new national currency, the somoni.
On the initiative of the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, the national currency – Tajik somoni, was introduced into circulation on October 30, 2000. This became an important historical event that contributed to the strengthening of state independence and the development of the country’s financial system.
This commemorative banknote, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the introduction of the national currency, the somoni, represents the important stages, progress, and stability of the monetary system of the Republic of Tajikistan and it is intended to enhance citizens’ sense of national honor and respect for state values.
Additionally, the Somoni currency is recognized one of the most secure currencies in the world, and the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) considered this banknote follows the principle. The banknote is adorned with two outstanding security features. It features the RollingStar® Patch on the front, and is the first banknote issued to feature the new RollingStar® Venus with both Color MotifFlip® and ColorFlip®, on the back. It is printed on 100% organic cotton.
Innovation and unique aspects
The new Tajikistan 100 banknote commemorates the 25th anniversary of the Somoni currency. Significantly, it is Tajikistan’s first commemorative banknote, and first in the world to feature RollingStar® Venus thread. The Somoni is one of the most secure currencies in the world, and this banknote follows the principle. The banknote is adorned with two outstanding security features. It features the new RollingStar® Patch on the front, and RollingStar® Venus with both Color MotifFlip and ColorFlip on the back. It is printed on 100% organic cotton.
The portrait on the obverse shows Ismoil Somoni (849-907), emir of the Samanids state. During his governance, the Samanid Emirate became a powerful state in Central Asia. Ismoil Somoni was buried in the Samanid Mausoleum (the building next to the portrait) in Bukhara. He is revered in Tajikistan, and numerous places and institutions are named after him.
The reverse depicts the new parliament building. The fountains in the square in front of it and the base of the nearby Istiqlol Monument, like many ornaments, are octagonal. This shape became the basis for the design of the note’s frame, some underground structures, and even helps banknote authentication for visually impaired people.
The arch in the design references the floral ornamentation and abstracts the rising contour of the Istiqlol Monument, which is also dedicated to Ismoil Somoni, somewhat softening the austerity. Elements reflecting history have been preserved (the Ismoil Somoni mausoleum), which testifies to continuity of traditions.
The reverse of the banknote depicts the Parliament building of Tajikistan, symbolizing new development. A special logo: “25th Anniversary of the National Currency” appears on the banknote.
Overall integration of Features
The banknote is adorned with two outstanding security features. It features the new RollingStar® Patch on the front, and RollingStar® Venus with both Color MotifFlip™ and ColorFlip™ on the back. The RollingStar® Patch is a foil element with micromirror and ColorShift ™ technologies, visible even in low light. When tilted, it displays dynamic 3D effects and stunning color changes. The highly dynamic security thread is based on nanotechnology with vibrant colour and motif changes.
The RollingStar® Venus is a registered 6 mm security thread in orange + violet. Its middle window features a Color MotifFlipTM with striking change of color and motif => orange “100” (the denomination) disappearing into the violet background while a second motif “БМТ“ (“Бонки Mиллии Тоҷикистон“ which means National Bank of Tajikistan) appears out of the violet background in orange in the same area.
In the Upper & lower window: ColorFlip™ – a highly aesthetic eye-catcher with vivid and dynamic optical effects, where typical for the Tajik culture ornaments shows dynamic effects and flipping color (orange and violet). Similar ornaments can be also observed in the window grille on the “corners” of the new parliament building, as well as on the Qubbas above them. The same ornament surrounds the flipping motifs in the middle window creating a good connection between all three windows.
The RollingStar® Patch- features demetallization and a ColorShift effect from violet to green. The background shows a dynamic pattern. In the center, you find a clear flip effect from “100” to “БМТ“ letters.
