Project Description

The 500 Piso polymer banknote of the Philippines features IN Groupe’s Plasmogram™ Reverso, a cutting edge holographic technology for polymer windows. Building on the earlier introduction of the 1000 Piso polymer note in April 2022, these two denominations represent the next generation of security features, designed for central banks seeking innovation, eye-catching effects, and public-friendly authentication.

Improvement of the Banknote or Printing Process

For this 500 Piso note, IN Groupe developed a new colour triptych to create a distinct variant: a copper colour on the front, the traditional gold on the reverse, and violet visible in transmission. This is the first time this alternative trio of colours has been introduced into circulation, ensuring strong visual integration with the note’s predominantly yellow and orange colour palette. The approach also supports the BSP’s goal of coherence across the two highest denominations and strengthens protection against counterfeiting.

Plasmogram™ Reverso provides a high security authentication feature while remaining intuitive and visually striking for the public.

This innovative colour triptych and Plasmogram™ Reverso technology significantly enhance the banknote’s efficiency, effectiveness, security, and resilience by providing a highly visible, easy to authenticate feature that strengthens protection against counterfeiting while maintaining coherence and visual appeal across denominations.

Innovation and Unique aspects

Plasmogram™ Reverso combines advanced holographic technology with flexible design and intuitive authentication:

  • Multiple metallic colour pairs visible on the front, back, and through transmission, perfectly registered
  • Dynamic visual designs, including waves, patterns, and 3D animations that shift with angle and light
  • Plasmonic resonance technology produces vivid colours through interaction with nano-scale structures without ink or pigment
  • Three authentication methods:
  1. Reflective colour (look at): metallic stripes display shiny colours on both sides, visible from the front or back, providing a unique anti-counterfeit indicator
  2. Transparency (look through): when held to light, a third set of colours aligns perfectly across the window, impossible to replicate with standard printing
  3. Design based authentication: shifting 3D patterns and holographic elements enhance recognition
  • Flexible application: can be used as stripes or patches
  • Durable and public-friendly: resistant to wear on polymer, easy to authenticate without tools

What makes Plasmogram™ Reverso truly innovative and unique is its combination of three complementary methods of authentication, integrated into a flexible, durable and visually striking design that cannot be reproduced by conventional printing techniques.

Environmental Impact

Plasmogram™ Reverso also contributes to environmental sustainability by enhancing the security of polymer banknotes, which are resistant and durable. By reducing the risk of counterfeiting and the need for frequent replacements, it minimises material use, waste and the overall environmental footprint of currency circulation.
