Project Description
The KOMSCO House Note was issued to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the Liberation of South Korea, a key moment in the country’s history, symbolizing resilience and national pride.
For this note, IN Groupe supplied a fully customized Moov™ security thread, specifically developed to match the note’s commemorative theme and visual style. While IN Groupe did not design the note itself, the Moov™ security thread plays a central role in its security and overall visual impact.
This project shows how advanced security technology can support national storytelling while providing high-level anti-counterfeiting protection.
Design Theme
The note’s design reflects heritage and national pride, with geometric elements like diamond patterns and soft violet tones representing stability and continuity.
The Moov™ thread was designed to fit naturally within this theme. Its dynamic wave effect interacts with the background patterns, making the thread feel like part of the design rather than a separate element.
The thread’s colours match thee note existing tones:
- In vertical orientation: green and violet, harmonizing with the note’s pastel violet tones.
- In horizontal orientation: green and red, the most perceptible colours to the human eye, for better public recognition.
A fully transparent cleartext window shows the number “80”, connecting the security feature directly to the anniversary and giving the thread symbolic meaning beyond protection. The numerals are subtly striped, reflecting the background patterns of the banknote.
Integration of Security Features
The 6 mm wide Moov™ security thread was fully customized for this note, both in animation and colour design. Key features include:
- Dynamic wave optical effect with fluid animation
- Perfect colour registration for each animation step.
- High-contrast transitions for easy human-eye detection.
- Transparent window revealing the number “80”
- 90 degree colour permutation from cool colours (green & purple) to warm colours (red & green), supporting cashier authentication
The wave animation, of the Moov™ security thread, was intentionally kept simple in shape. While the banknote design is based on structured diamond patterns, the thread introduces a smooth movement that contrasts with the geometric background of the banknote: The waves move from right to left as the user moves the banknote up and down, and each colour is associated with an opposite movement for an easy authentication.
This controlled contrast enhances visibility and immediately draws attention to the security feature without disrupting the overall balance of the note.
The optical performance is achieved through the precise combination of microstructures, generating the animation, and nanostructures, generating the colour effects. This layered architecture ensures accurate synchronization between movement and colour.
The thread was integrated with three goals in mind:
- Visual interaction with the design: The wave contrasts with the diamond background of the banknote, creating a dynamic effect that attract the eye, while its green and purple colours match the note’s tones to enhance both visibility and integration.
- Maximum visibility: The green & red contrast in the horizontal orientation strengthens intuitive authentication, particularly in checkout environments.
- Symbolic meaning: The transparent “80” directly connects the thread to the anniversary.
The result is a security feature that combines advanced optical technology, deliberate visual contrast and symbolic personalisation, enhancing both authentication performance and commemorative identity.
Other Aspects
This House Note stands out due to the level of customization achieved within the Moov™ technology.
Rather than using a standard solution, IN Groupe delivered a configuration that aligns seamlessly with the note’s existing design. The coordination between dynamic animation, multi-directional colour changes, and the clear text anniversary marking demonstrates how security technology can contribute to both protection and the overall impact of a commemorative issue.
By combining optical animation, controlled colour transitions, and symbolic marking, the thread enhances the note’s security and its commemorative character.
