Banknote Description
The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) in collaboration with the Government of Grenada issued a $50 polymer commemorative banknote on SAFEGUARD®, to commemorate Grenada’s 50th anniversary of independence (golden jubilee).
The note carries the national colours Grenada (yellow, green and red) and the images of two of Grenada’s political icon, along with the map of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. Notable landmarks of Grenada are also featured on the banknotes.
The banknote was issued only in Grenada but is legal tender across the other ECCB countries.
Innovation and unique aspects
Expertly integrated into the design are the De La Rue features SPOTLIGHT™, PUREIMAGE™, ROTATE™, and Enhanced GEMINI™ which provide level 1 and level 2 security whilst supporting the overall aesthetic. SPOTLIGHT™ is present in the holographic foil as a counter-rotating ‘5’ and ‘0’, PUREIMAGE™ appears twice in the holographic design, on either side of the main window which features Grenada’s coat of arms.
Overall integration of Features
Featuring portraits of former prime ministers Sir Eric Matthew Gairy and Maurice Bishop, the note pays homage to their pivotal roles in Grenada’s history. This banknote stands out with its distinctive design approach, narrating Grenada’s story through its influential figures, culture, and landmarks. The use of vibrant greens and reds enhances the visual appeal, while the holographic foil adds a dynamic touch.
