Croatian National Bank : 100 years of Croatian Radiotelevision

The national side of the coin features radio waves in five lines, symbolising the beginning of broadcasting of “Radio Zagreb”, on the medium-wave frequency of 350 meters on 15 May 1926 at 8.30 p.m. This moment also symbolises the beginning of the Croatian Radio and Television, the legal successor to “Radio Zagreb”, which is today the central national media organisation with significant cultural and social relevance for the Republic of Croatia. The coin will be issued in the amount of 200,000 pieces, of which 190,000 pieces will be available to citizens for exchange. The national side of the coin is designed by the sculptor Karlo Grass and the coin is minted by the Croatian Mint.

The coin stands out through its contemporary typographic design, where the inscription itself becomes a visual rhythm inspired by radio waves, broadcast signals and the flow of information. Rather than relying on a literal image, the design uses abstract lines and elongated lettering to symbolise 100 years of Croatian Radiotelevision, connecting tradition, communication and modern media identity in a simple but powerful way.

The design brings together all key features of the coin into a clear and coherent whole. The European stars frame the composition, while the central golden field carries a contemporary typographic motif inspired by sound waves, broadcasting signals and communication. The inscription, rhythm of lines and bimetallic contrast work together to create a distinctive visual identity that connects the 100-year history of Croatian Radiotelevision with a modern interpretation of public media.
