Coin Denomination/s and Date of Issue
Project Description
The Bank of Ghana has upgraded the GH₵1 coin with enhanced security features. The coin is similar to the existing GH₵1 coin in shape, form and images; the Coat of Arms in front and the Scale of Justice at the back. The upgraded GH₵1 coin is bi-metallic with an outer gold and inner silver. The coin has a pronounced serrated edge and incorporates a latent image, which appears in a rectangular form below the Scale of Justice at the back. The latent image changes from a radiating star to a One Ghana cedi symbol positioned between two stars when tilted.
Innovation and Uniqueness of Design
The GH₵1 is a bi-metallic coin with a serrated edge. The reverse design features a latent image, which appears in a rectangular form below the Scale of Justice at the back. The latent image changes from a radiating star to a One Ghana cedi symbol positioned between two stars when tilted.
Integration of historical or local content that is relevant to the country
concerned
The coin is similar to the existing GH₵1 coin in shape, form and images; the Coat of Arms in front and the Scale of Justice at the back.
Effectiveness of integration of security features into the coin
The GH₵1 coin is a bimetallic coin that has a serrated edge for ease of recognition. It also has a latent image on the reverse. The latent image changes from a radiating star to a One Ghana cedi symbol positioned between two stars when tilted.
Aesthetic appeal and overall design of the coin or coin series
The design was based around the previous GH₵1 coin but with the aim of modernising the coin. Therefore a latent image was incorporated under the Scales of Justice on the reverse. The addition of the latent image also keeps the design in line with the GH₵2 coin.
