The 2026 ASEAN Philippine Chairship 1-Piso Commemorative Coin was produced and issued for the commemoration of the Philippine’s holding Chairship of the ASEAN for CY 2026 and is the first circulation coin to use a QR code as a way to promote awareness of the event and provide the public a way to access the latest news and activities related to ASEAN.
Innovation and unique aspects
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) produced and issued the 2026 ASEAN Philippine Chairship 10-Piso Commemorative Coin not only to celebrate the country’s Chairship, but also as a means to disseminate information about the event on a larger scale. It is the first circulation coin in the country to feature a functional, readable QR code. While QR codes have previously been used on commemorative non-circulation coins, their inclusion on a circulation coin represents a significant milestone in enhancing public access to information through currency.
By incorporating a QR code into a circulating coin, the design bridges tradition and technology, allowing the public to access real-time information on ASEAN initiatives thru the BSP website and events through an interactive digital experience.
Also featured is the ASEAN logo superimposed on micro-letters forming a wave like design inspired by flowing waves and the current of the sea. This symbolizes that while the nations of the ASEAN are separate sovereign states with distinct cultures and customs, they are all united as water connects all the members.

The 2026 ASEAN Philippine Chairship Commemorative Coin is produced using the existing 10-Piso circulation coin blanks and retains all technical specifications of the New Generation Currency (NGC) 10-Piso coin.
The obverse design and technical specifications remain unchanged and conform to the current standards for the 10-Piso circulation coin.
The reverse features the official ASEAN 2026 Philippine Chairship identity, commemorative inscriptions, and a readable QR code that links to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas website, serving as a gateway to real-time updates and information on ASEAN-related activities and events throughout the Philippines’ Chairship.
