Coin Description
The coin was produced to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Central Bank of The Bahamas.
Innovation and unique aspects
It is the first painted circulation coin issued in the history of the Central Bank of The Bahamas. While the coins will be issued in the same manner as other circulation coins, the Central Bank has arranged Limited Edition and Super Limited Editions for gifting. The Limited Edition packaging (white tray) features 40 coins wrapped in 50th Anniversary paper and paired with an additional coin in a capsule, giving the owner an option to show off their coins without breaking the seal f the roll. The Super Limited Edition packaging (black tray) features 40 coins in a roll-length capsule.
Overall integration of Features
The obverse bears the traditional image of the Coat of Arms of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. The reverse features the timeless image of a sailing native sloop which has been the featured image on the 25 cent since 1966. The positioning of the image was adjusted slightly to accommodate the additional text ”50th Anniversary of The Central Bank of The Bahamas”. The coin is partially painted on both sides, bringing life to the sloop and sea on the reverse and the national symbols of The Bahamas on the obverse.
Highlights an event
The Central Bank came into inception approximately one year following the independence of The Bahamas. Therefore, the milestones of the Central Bank are closely aligned with national heritage, growth and development. The Central Bank has issued a calendar of events designed to celebrate this milestone along with the public. The release of a commemorative circulation coin aligns with that goal and underscores the Bank’s vision for financial exclusivity.
