Organization Name: Monnaie de Paris
In 2020, Monnaie de Paris is putting forward a philosophical vision of peace through the collaboration of two artists of the 21st century: Eugene Daub and Joaquin Jimenez. Joaquin Jimenez has been the artistic director of Monnaie de Paris for several years. Eugene Daub is an American sculptor of contemporary figures.
This sub-theme is part of the History of Mankind theme that began in 2019 with the fall of the Berlin Wall, the First Step on the Moon and the Dday.
Monnaie de Paris launched this collection with the aim of having a new collaboration between two artists: one sculptor, the other engraver. The association of their works allows a binational approach of the 75 years of Peace celebration.
Eugene Daub made the obverse of the coins, and Joaquin Jimenez the reverse. These two sides then respond to each other and dialogue with each other.
The coins of this series are made of Fairmined Gold. Fairmined is a label which guarantees a fair and responsible gold extraction. It attests that this gold is produced by autonomous small scale craft mines. The metal’s price is guaranteed at a fair price plus a premium for the local development. It is also protects the environment and the working conditions of the miners. Fairmined supplies gold to companies selling specific labelled products.
